About Meadow Tree Services

At Meadow Tree Services we pride ourselves by only conducting work to a manner that's in accordance with BS3998 and Arboricultural Association Guidelines.

Meadow tree services are an arboricultural contracting business with a passion for tree care. It is our philosophy that trees as dynamic living organisms which change constantly with environmental and pathogenic factors should only be pruned if it is necessary.

We are members of the Arboricultural Association but are not approved contractors for the association (we are actively working towards this status and hope to apply within the next twelve months)
We are also members of the Royal Forestry Society (RFS)and the International Society of Arborists(ISA)

We are insured to five million pounds public liability (the minimum requirement for the industry), and are insured with Bryant Keswick partners.

Here at Meadow Tree Services we are aware that the national forest is depleted, To help improve this situation we offer the following service.

If we remove a good tree from a domestic garden we will offer to replant a tree of the same species or a similar species, You can have the replacement tree planted in a different place in your own garden or in an area of our choice away from your garden.

Qualifications

The tree industry training bodies are LANTRA and NPTC. These training organisations provide excellent training giving candidates the basic knowledge of how to perform the tasks required within the tree industry. Once this basic knowledge has been taken on board then the only way to learn is to work within trees as each species react differently at different times of the year or stages in its life. We never ask any member of staff to perform a task which they have not had training in unless they are undergoing training in that task, (you the client will be informed of this prior to the commencement of the work, a specialist trainer will be on site in addition to our team)
I hope this helps to clarify some of the work that we undertake as arborists,

NOTICE WE DO NOT DO THE FOLLOWING

Bad pruning practice

Lopping and topping

This is the practice of indiscriminate cutting back of trees branches, which often leaves stubs and poor pruning wounds. This type of work is often undertaken by contractors who have not being trained in appropriate pruning practices.

The usual reason for topping and lopping trees is to reduce the size of the tree; this makes home/property owner’s feel safer as the hazard of the large tree has been reduced. The truth is that the hazard has been increased because of the stress that the tree has being put under with the removal of the trees canopy.

The contractors who undertake this type of work will often remove between 50-100% of the trees leaf mass. The leaves are how the tree produces food, so with the leaf mass removed the tree will starve. To combat this, the tree will produce epicormic growth from latent buds just below the surface of the stems. This in turn puts the tree under more stress, also if the tree is under stress from drought or root compaction then it will be seriously weakened or even die. While the tree is under such stress it will be also become vulnerable to insects, fungal infection and disease.

The open pruning wounds that are often left during this type of pruning work which are not usually cut to branch collar, so the tree will have difficulty if not impossible to compartmentalise the wound, which can then lead to decay forming within the tree.
