Crown lifting.

Crown lifting involves the removal of lower branches to a given height above ground level. This can be done by the removal of whole branches, or by the removal of the parts which extend below the desired cleared height.
Crown lifting may be carried out to allow access below the tree, to allow the passage of vehicles and pedestrians and to comply with requirements of the Highways Act 1980.
It can also be undertaken to improve lines of sight, to increase the light reaching plants beneath the tree or to produce knot free timber.
