Crown reductions should be carried out by cutting main leader branches back to suitable laterals to maintain a flowing branch without leaving stumps.

To reduce weight of potentially dangerous limbs
To balance a misshapen tree
To prevent a tree damaging buildings or property
To prevent trees interfering with overhead power lines
