Meadow Tree Services Crown Thinning Service

Crown thinning involves the removal of the proportion of secondary and small, live branch growth from throughout the crown.
The main reasons for crown thinning are:
To allow more light to pass through the tree, which then helps prevent the formation of dead wood and can almost be classed as dead wooding in advance.
Reduce the wind resistance of the crown and to a small extent its weight, this then helps reduce the likelihood of collapse or partial collapse.
To reduce stress by reducing the amount of foliage, thereby reduces the moisture requirement of the tree.

The weight distribution should be even throughout the crown, as shown above.
If all the weight is at the end of the branch (what is known as lions tail) this then adds strain to the tree during windy conditions increasing the chance of failure.
